Rocky Mountain Creek by Choedan-Kal Rocky Mountain Creek by Choedan-Kal
Digital Oils in Painter X using a Wacom tablet. This is a relatively quick painting of a real place (personal photo references used). It’s creek in the Rocky Mountain National Park, directly downstream of Dream Lake (at nearly 10,000 feet).

This picture took slightly longer than I intended (i.e. not quite a speed painting), but I am very pleased with the results. My goal was to get better practice using a more realistic/sophisticated color scheme without worrying about details or texture. I originally started off with acrylics, but I discovered that the oil brushes gave me the richer colors I wanted. I suppose that is the point of Painter, but I was still kind of amazed how much of a difference choosing the right brush made.

I am personally more partial to the watercolor brush in Open Canvas 1.1. But so many other people tell me it is very difficult to command it. I love myself. The majority of my digital works are done mostly with that watercolor brush.

This is great! The colors sure give a great impression of the scene. ^^

I really like this, and the photo-reference helped bring out a lot of shading realism. Like to see it bigger, but it's still great!
